On the evening of Sunday, October 1, 2023, tragedy struck in the Wells-Goodfellow neighborhood of St. Louis, Missouri. Just after 9:30 p.m., police officers were dispatched to the 5700 block of Terry Avenue following alerts from the city’s ShotSpotter system, which detects gunfire. Upon arrival, first responders discovered a chaotic scene involving two victims who had been struck by gunfire.
One of the victims was identified as 37-year-old male Garrett Davis, a resident of the 8800
block of Clifton Avenue in nearby Jennings, Missouri. Authorities reported that Davis had sustained a gunshot wound to the torso. despite the response of emergency services, his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced deceased. The second victim, an unidentified male, was found with a gunshot wound to the hand and survived the incident.
At the time of the initial reports, homicide detectives from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department had launched an investigation into the double shooting. Sources available shortly after the event did not indicate that any suspects had been taken into custody or that any charges had been filed in connection with Davis's death.
