Jorge Luis Lerma, a 22-year-old Hispanic male from San Antonio, Texas, tragically lost his life on February 6, 2021. He was the victim of a fatal shooting that occurred on the East Side of San Antonio. According to the Bexar County Medical Examiner, Lerma died from a gunshot wound to the chest. His death was ruled a homicide.
The incident took place in the 100 block of Omaha Street, where four men were seen on foot in the area and fired a total of 10 gunshots.
One of the bullets struck Lerma while he was sitting inside his vehicle. He was immediately taken to Brooke Army Medical Center in serious condition but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries later.
Authorities launched an investigation and identified four suspects in connection with the shooting. Despite an extensive search, the suspects remained at large. Police received information that the suspects might have entered a house a couple of blocks away from the scene, but the house was found vacant. The investigation continued as law enforcement sought to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The tragic death of Jorge Lerma sparked a community-wide effort to address gun violence and improve safety measures in the area. His family and friends remembered him as a young man with a promising future, deeply loved by those who knew him.
