Steven Thomas Gagne, age 36, died on March 31, 2024, in San Antonio, Texas, as a result of a shooting during a firearm sale that went wrong. The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. on March 30 near South Flores Street on the South Side of San Antonio. Gagne was found lying on the street with several gunshot wounds to his stomach. He was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
The shooting took place when Gagne met with three teenagers to sell a firearm.
According to the arrest report, one of the suspects took the gun from Gagne, prompting him to draw a weapon. At that point, another suspect drew a gun and started shooting at Gagne, hitting him multiple times. The three suspects then fled the scene.
Three teenage suspects have been arrested and charged with capital murder in connection with Gagne's death. The suspects are:
1. David Francisco Rebelo-Garcia, age 19
2. James Jose Garcia, age 18
3. A 16-year-old boy (whose identity has not been released due to his age)
Investigators used text and audio messages between the suspects discussing the planned robbery, as well as messages between Rebelo-Garcia and Gagne setting up the sale of the firearm and location. These messages were crucial evidence in the case.
James Jose Garcia, the third suspect to be arrested, is being held at the Bexar County Jail on a $300,000 bond. The San Antonio Police Department has charged all three suspects with capital murder, indicating the severity of the crime and the potential for significant legal consequences if convicted.
