Johnn Johnny Villegas, a 51-year-old man from Dumas, Texas, tragically died on March 6, 2021, from a gunshot wound to the chest. He was transported to Northwest Hospital in Amarillo, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The incident occurred during a domestic dispute at his home, involving his wife and stepdaughter, Alejandra Urbina.
Following the incident, the Dumas Police Department conducted an investigation and identified Alejandra Urbina, who was 19 years old at the time, as
the suspect. Urbina was indicted for murder by a grand jury on March 29, 2021, and subsequently arrested. She spent 14 months in jail before being released on bond in July 2022. The case took a turn when the Texas Attorney General reviewed the evidence and determined that Urbina had acted in self-defense, leading to the dismissal of the murder charges against her in January 2023.
The investigation revealed a history of violence in the household, with Villegas having a criminal record that included charges of aggravated sexual assault of a child against Urbina when she was eight years old. On the morning of his death, Villegas was reportedly armed with a machete, which he had allegedly used to threaten Urbina and her mother. Villegas was described by his brother as a generous man with a reputation for his temper. He is survived by his mother, Juanita Villegas, his siblings, Sylvester Villegas and Joelda Soto, and his daughters, Sarina Kleman, Jocelynn Villegas, Leslie Villegas, and Vanessa Villegas. He also leaves behind eleven grandchildren, seven nephews, and three nieces.
