Luis Ruiz, a 21-year-old Hispanic male, was tragically killed on March 10, 2021, in a quadruple shooting in southwest Houston, Texas. The incident occurred on Ranchester Drive, where Luis and his 20-year-old sister, Jessica Ruiz, were among the victims. The siblings, along with three others, got into a confrontation with two men in a gold or brown sedan.
The men left the scene only to return and open fire, resulting in the deaths of Luis, Jessica, and a 55-year-old man named Josafat Ocampo Mesa. An 18-year-old woman was also shot but survived, while the fifth person at the scene was not injured.
The Houston Police Department described the violence as "completely senseless" and launched an investigation to find those responsible. The Harris County District Attorney's Office charged 22-year-old Roger Salazar with capital murder, believing he "intentionally and knowingly" caused the deaths of Luis and Jessica Ruiz with a firearm. The investigation revealed that the shooting was unprovoked and occurred after a brief argument in a parking lot.
Family members of the victims expressed their grief and set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for the funerals of Luis and Jessica. The page highlighted the close bond between the siblings, who were always together and took care of one another. The community was urged to provide any information that could help solve the case, and the Houston Police Department continued to seek leads to bring justice to the victims and their families.
