Genaro Urbano Gomez Castillo, a 42-year-old Hispanic male, tragically lost his life on May 21, 2021, in Cameron Park, Texas. His death was the result of a violent shooting incident. Authorities were responding to a welfare check when they discovered Castillo's body. The Cameron County Sheriff’s Office initiated a homicide investigation shortly after.
Several arrests were made in connection with Castillo's murder.
On May 27, 2021, Rogelio Mendiola was arrested and charged with the murder. Later, on June 17, 2021, Roman Torres was also arrested and charged with Castillo's murder. Both Mendiola and Torres were considered co-defendants in the case. Additionally, authorities were still searching for Jose Alfredo Villarreal, who was believed to be involved in the crime and had an outstanding warrant for murder.
The investigation into Castillo's death continued, with the CCSO urging anyone with information to come forward. The case highlighted the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to bring those responsible for violent crimes to justice and ensure the safety of the community.
