J.C. Campbell, a 48-year-old male from Ladonia, Texas, tragically lost his life on August 2, 2021. Campbell was fatally shot multiple times in the parking lot of the Texoma Housing Authority complex. Witnesses reported that Campbell was on the tailgate of his pickup truck when Justin Marquiwis Cuba approached him. After a brief dispute, Cuba allegedly shot Campbell several times before fleeing the scene.
Law enforcement authorities, including the Ladonia Police Department and Texas
Rangers, launched an investigation into Campbell's death. Shortly after the incident, a murder warrant was issued for Justin Cuba. Cuba, along with an accomplice named Carmen Taylor Cuba, went on the run following the shooting. The authorities continued their search for Cuba, who was added to the Texas 10 Most Wanted Fugitives list.
In April 2022, Carmen Taylor Cuba turned herself in to the Fannin County Sheriff’s Office and was charged with murder. She was processed into the Fannin County Jail with a bond set at $100,000. Justin Cuba was eventually arrested in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in May 2022. He faced murder charges in both Texas and Louisiana, as he was also accused of killing a 32-year-old woman in Baton Rouge.
The investigation into J.C. Campbell's death highlighted the collaborative efforts of multiple law enforcement agencies, including the U.S. Marshals’ Fugitive Task Force, to bring the suspects to justice. The case underscored the importance of community cooperation in solving violent crimes and ensuring that those responsible are held accountable.
