On August 13, 2021, Jose Villarreal Jr., a 39-year-old man from Brownsville, Texas, was tragically killed. Villarreal, who was Hispanic, was lured to a location by two women he met on social media. Once there, he was kidnapped at gunpoint and forced to withdraw money from his bank account at various ATM locations around the city. After the suspects took the money, Villarreal was shot and killed. His body was later discovered on Father Mestas Street.
