Leyder Vidal-Diaz, a 46-year-old man of Hispanic ethnicity, tragically lost his life on October 6, 2021, in Austin, Texas. The incident occurred in the 2800 block of Palomino Trail in Southeast Austin, where Vidal-Diaz was fatally shot by his stepson, Richard Addison Nunez, during a family disturbance. Witnesses reported that the altercation escalated, leading to Nunez shooting Vidal-Diaz.
Despite efforts by officers and EMS medics to save him, Vidal-Diaz was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following the incident, the Austin Police Department issued a first-degree murder warrant for Nunez, who was later arrested and held on a $1 million bond. The Travis County Medical Examiner's Office conducted an autopsy and determined the cause of death to be a gunshot wound, ruling it a homicide. Nunez, who was 30 years old at the time, was charged with the murder of his stepfather.
