Modesta "Molly" Lupe Caballero, a 56-year-old woman of Hispanic ethnicity from Ganado, Texas, tragically lost her life on October 27, 2021. She was fatally shot by Joshua Lee Seahorn, a 39-year-old man from Corpus Christi, in the parking lot of a grocery store in Ganado. Caballero had gone into the store and was returning to her car when Seahorn shot her.
She was transported to El Campo Memorial Hospital and later flown to Houston Memorial Hermann Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries early the next morning.
Seahorn, who had no known connection to Cabellero, fled the scene but was found by law enforcement officials with self-inflicted gunshot wounds to the head about a mile away. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation revealed that Seahorn was en route from North Texas back to Corpus Christi, but the motive behind the shooting remained unclear.
The Ganado Police Department conducted a thorough investigation, but no additional suspects were identified. The case was treated as a tragic, isolated incident, and no further arrests or litigations were pursued. The community mourned the loss of Cabellero, who was remembered as a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother.
