The life of Domitila Rukata, a 28-year-old Hispanic woman, came to a tragic end on September 16, 2024, in Houston, Texas. She was found deceased inside an apartment that, according to a witness who spoke with police, she had only recently moved into with her partner.
Houston police responded to the residence, where they made a grim discovery. In the living room, officers found Ms. Rukata.
She had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation led officers to the bedroom, where they found a 33-year-old man, also deceased. His death was caused by what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Based on the evidence at the scene, authorities began investigating the case as an apparent murder-suicide.
The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences later identified the two individuals as Domitila Rukata and Ezechiel Hashimumukiza. According to reports, Hashimumukiza was a police officer and was Ms. Rukata's partner.
With the primary suspect in Ms. Rukata's homicide having died at the scene, the investigation was concluded. In the wake of the tragedy, a family member named Willy Rukata organized a memorial fund to honor Domitila's memory. The case was considered closed as of September 2024.
