Nitzi Valencia, a 28-year-old woman, tragically lost her life on November 10, 2021, in Spring, Texas. She was shot and killed late at night while visiting friends who lived near her ex-boyfriend's residence. Valencia had recently moved out of the home she shared with her ex-boyfriend and was staying with her mother at the time of her death.
The suspect in this case, Jose Gallegos, was Valencia's 24-year-old ex-boyfriend.
According to authorities, Gallegos broke into the home on Diane Drive and shot Valencia, as well as another man who was grazed by a bullet. The bullets also fatally struck a dog inside the home. After committing the crime, Gallegos fled the scene.
Gallegos was later found dead in New Mexico, having taken his own life before police could apprehend him. Before his death, he contacted the Harris County Sheriff's Office and confessed to the murder of Valencia. New Mexico State Police discovered his vehicle on tribal land near Albuquerque, where he was found deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
In the aftermath of the tragedy, Valencia's family set up a GoFundMe campaign to help cover funeral expenses. The investigation concluded with charges against Gallegos for the murder of Nitzi Valencia.
This case highlights the devastating impact of domestic violence and the importance of support systems for victims and their families. Valencia's death serves as a reminder of the need for continued efforts to prevent such tragedies and provide resources for those affected by domestic abuse.
