Joshua Huron, a 33-year-old man from Converse, Texas, tragically lost his life on November 11, 2021. Huron was found unconscious after being shot multiple times in the 8800 block of Appaloosa Pass. He was rushed to a local hospital but succumbed to his injuries the following day.
The investigation into Huron's death led to the arrest of Vaughan Dale Skirvin, a 27-year-old man from Universal City, Texas.
Skirvin called 911 himself, admitting to shooting Huron and providing information about his location and the weapon used. Officers found an AK-47 type weapon in Skirvin's vehicle, which matched the description of the firearm used in the shooting. Skirvin was initially charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, but the charge was later elevated to murder.
In September 2022, a Bexar County Grand Jury indicted Skirvin on two counts: murder and tampering with evidence. The indictment alleged that Skirvin intentionally and knowingly caused Huron's death by shooting him with a firearm and then attempted to impair the investigation by altering gunshot residue. Skirvin did not contest the charges and reached a plea agreement, resulting in a 35-year prison sentence.
The case was prosecuted by the Family Violence Division in the 187th District Court, and Skirvin was found guilty by State District Judge Stephanie Boyd. Bexar County District Attorney Joe D. Gonzales expressed deep sorrow over the senseless act of violence that took Huron's life.
