Ivan Josue Ortiz-Castillo, a 19-year-old Hispanic male, was tragically shot and killed on December 27, 2021, in Midland County, Texas. The incident occurred on the 10001 block of West County Road 154. Ortiz-Castillo was found by the entrance to TM RV Park, where he had been living for a significant period. The Midland County Sheriff's Office confirmed that Ortiz-Castillo died from a single gunshot wound to his chest.
The investigation into Ortiz-Castillo's death revealed that he had
been communicating with an unidentified individual about drug and money transactions. On the day of the shooting, Ortiz-Castillo was instructed via text message to come outside for a drug delivery. Surveillance footage showed a white car arriving in the area shortly before the shooting, and a text message asking "what did you do" was sent to Ortiz-Castillo one minute after the car left.
Following the investigation, MCSO arrested 23-year-old Nereida Viscarra-Garcia, who was charged with tampering with physical evidence and murder. Viscarra-Garcia was identified as the owner of the white car seen in the surveillance footage. The affidavit revealed that Ortiz-Castillo's blood was found leading to broken glass, and Viscarra-Garcia was linked to the crime scene through social media and investigative tools.
The case remains ongoing, and MCSO continues to seek information from the public to aid in their investigation. The community has been shocked by the murder, as the area where Ortiz-Castillo was killed is typically considered safe.
