On August 15, 2023, at approximately 4:19 p.m., the Midland Police Department responded to a report of a gunshot victim in the 1900 block of East Scharbauer Drive in Midland, Texas. Upon arrival, officers discovered 17-year-old Morgan Osborne, a student at Legacy High School, deceased from a single gunshot wound.
The investigation revealed that two juvenile males had fled the scene with the firearm involved in the shooting.
These individuals were subsequently identified and arrested on charges of tampering with evidence. The body was sent to the Dallas Medical Examiner’s office for an autopsy, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Morgan Osborne, born on September 7, 2005, in Midland County, spent his entire life in Texas. He was known for his love of cars, music, and fun, making friends wherever he went. His untimely death has left a significant void among his family and friends across the United States.
In the wake of this tragedy, Midland Independent School District offered sincere condolences to Osborne's family and friends. Counselors were made available at Legacy High School to support students and staff during this difficult time.
