Avanti JaDarius King, a 19-year-old male from Houston, Texas, tragically lost his life on January 17, 2022. He was discovered deceased from a gunshot wound by a witness who was picking up trash at the end of Patrick Street, south of 100 West Hamilton Street. The cause of death was determined to be a gunshot wound.

On February 12, 2022, Earnest Austin, aged 33, was arrested on felony warrants unrelated to King's murder. However, during the arrest, Austin was also charged with King's murder. Detectives are still seeking information to identify a second suspect involved in the crime.
The investigation revealed that Austin and another suspect, Thomas Alvarez, aged 35, were involved in the fatal shooting. Both men have been charged with murder in connection with King's death.
