On February 3, 2022, 11-year-old Darius Darnell D.J. Dugas was tragically shot and killed while grabbing his coat from his family's car at their apartment complex in northeast Harris County, Houston, Texas. Darius, a young boy of African American ethnicity, was simply retrieving his jacket during a winter storm when he was caught in the crossfire of a violent robbery.
