Troy Phelay Odom, a 49-year-old African American man from Houston, Texas, tragically died on April 17, 2022. He was fatally shot by Antonio Batres, a 21-year-old employee at a Family Dollar store, after an alleged shoplifting incident. Odom was unarmed and walking away from the store when Batres pursued him and shot him 12 times in the back.
