Chris Doerue, a 25-year-old male of African ethnicity, tragically died on May 8, 2022, in Amarillo, Texas. The incident occurred during a family gathering to celebrate the pregnancy of Chris' brother, Alpha. The celebration took place at a home in the 1400 block of N. Johnson Street.
During the event, two young men, Leonard Hakizimana and Jeremiah Ntirampeba , arrived and began acting suspiciously. Chris, attempting to maintain peace, escorted the two men to their car.
As Chris turned back to talk to his mother, Annie Doerue, he was shot in the back of the head by one of the suspects. Chris fell to the ground, and his brother, King, attempted to confront the gunmen but was deterred by the threat of further violence.

The suspects, Hakizimana and Ntirampeba, fled the scene but were later arrested and charged with murder.
