On July 1, 2016, authorities in St. Louis, Missouri, began an investigation into a violent incident discovered along the banks of the Mississippi River. Police were dispatched to the riverfront area after receiving reports of a person down near the Merchants Bridge, a historic rail bridge connecting Missouri and Illinois. Upon arrival at the scene, officers located the body of a male victim lying on the riverfront trail beneath the bridge structure.
