On August 28, 2012, 22-year-old Marshall Prosser was found dead in East Oakland, California. He was shot while inside his car on 84th Avenue, and the authorities found him in the vehicle after responding to a ShotSpotter alert. Marshall was pronounced dead at the scene. His homicide added to the alarming number of murders in Oakland that year, where violent crime, particularly in neighborhoods like East Oakland, was a major issue.
