On the evening of December 30, 2024, Kody Tyler Johnston, a 25-year-old white male from Alameda, California, was fatally shot in Oakland while assisting a friend in recovering her stolen vehicle. The incident occurred around 9:00 p.m. on the 4300 block of Fleming Avenue, where Oakland Police Department officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation and found Johnston suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
