George Trewhitt White, a 40-year-old Deputy Sheriff from Bledsoe County, Tennessee, met a tragic end on March 21, 1904. While transporting a prisoner from Atpontly to Pikesville, he was ambushed and shot. It is believed that an accomplice of the prisoner carried out the attack in an attempt to free the detainee.
