In the rural landscape of Bledsoe County, Tennessee, a lawman’s life was cut tragically short on a March day in 1904. George Trewhitt White, a 40-year-old male Deputy Sheriff, was dutifully carrying out his responsibilities, a task he had likely performed many times before. On March 21st, he was in the process of transporting a prisoner from Atpontly to the county seat of Pikeville. The journey, however, would be his last, as it was violently interrupted by a calculated and deadly ambush.
