Marshal Carl Right Grooms, aged 29, was a male officer of the Greenfield Police Department in Tennessee. On July 19, 1908, he was shot and killed while attempting to arrest a man involved in a fight. During the arrest, the suspect's brother threatened the officers, saying he would shoot them if they did not release the suspect.
