In the spring of 2024, a senseless act of violence cut short the life of 21-year-old Michael-Kane Gionny Buttram, a Black/African American male from Chattanooga, Tennessee. On the evening of April 12th, what began as an argument between two other individuals near a local skate park tragically ended with Buttram being fatally shot. He was not involved in the initial dispute but, in a courageous attempt to de-escalate the situation, he tried to help retrieve a firearm from one of the men involved
in the altercation. It was during this selfless act that he was killed.
Remembered as a happy child who grew into a kind-hearted young man, Michael-Kane was known for a smile that could light up any room. He was a natural protector with a deep love for his family. His passions included skateboarding, spending time with his friends, and cooking, especially for his grandmother. His sudden and violent death sent ripples of shock and grief through his community, leaving a profound void in the lives of his family and all who knew him.
In the days that followed the shooting, law enforcement launched an intensive investigation. Their efforts led them to a 29-year-old suspect who was apprehended in Alabama on April 24, 2024. The man, identified in some reports by his first name, Isaac, was taken into custody in connection with Buttram's death. He is facing serious charges, including first-degree murder and felony reckless endangerment, as the legal process against him continues.
