Deputy Sheriff Crit Bryant, aged 58, was shot and killed on December 3, 1910, in Jellico, Tennessee. Bryant was attempting to arrest a man who was acting disorderly and firing a gun. The suspect had been drinking in Jellico and was walking along the railroad tracks toward Saxton when Bryant encountered him. During the arrest attempt, Bryant was shot twice and fatally wounded. He was carried to his brother's home in Jellico, where he later died.
