Chief of Police Joseph E. "Joe" Arnold, aged 59, was shot and killed on March 15, 1911, in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Arnold was the Chief of Police for the Murfreesboro Police Department and was well-regarded for his dedication to the community. His death was the result of a dispute with a Rutherford County deputy sheriff over the arrest of two prisoners.
