Deputy Sheriff J. Wily Warwick, aged 26, was shot and killed on May 5, 1911, in Cotula, Tennessee. Warwick, who served with the Campbell County Sheriff's Office, was attempting to arrest a drunk man who was carrying a weapon. During the arrest attempt, the man opened fire, striking Deputy Warwick in the head. The suspect was also shot and killed during the incident.
