On January 27, 1923, 19-year-old salesman Duncan Waller from Mayfield, Kentucky, was found dead alongside Mrs. Ruth McElwain Tucker on a road near Memphis, Tennessee. Mrs. Tucker, a native of Bowling Green, Kentucky, had been residing in Nashville prior to the incident. The discovery was made by a milkman during his morning route. Waller's father had been in Memphis the previous night and was scheduled to depart with his son for a business trip through Arkansas the following day.
