Deputy Sheriff Charles Frank Jordan, aged 23, was shot and killed on February 4, 1982, in Pegram, Tennessee. He was off-duty at the time, but responded to a burglar alarm at a pharmacy on Route 70. Upon arriving at the scene, he observed two suspects inside and took up a defensive position behind his patrol car while waiting for backup officers. A third suspect, who was acting as a lookout, approached him from behind and shot him in the back with a shotgun.
