In the spring of 2009, a dispute between young men in East Knoxville escalated into a tragedy that claimed the life of 26-year-old Joshua Whittington. On the evening of April 27th, Whittington found himself intervening in an ongoing conflict involving his younger brother on McConnell Street. It was during this attempt to mediate that he was fatally shot. He was rushed to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, but tragically succumbed to his injuries.
