In the early morning hours of a Sunday in March 2014, a dispute in a downtown Johnson City, Tennessee parking lot escalated into a fatal shooting that claimed the life of DeShaun Wesley Greer. The incident, which occurred in a parking lot on Cherry Street, began as a large disturbance. Authorities were called to the scene and were initially able to restore some order, but the situation devolved into a shootout.
When the gunfire ceased, DeShaun Greer, a male, was dead, and another individual, Jamison Lewis, was wounded.
The investigation into the shooting led Johnson City Police to arrest Jamarcus Lavelle Jackson. Jackson was charged with the second-degree murder of DeShaun Greer. In addition to this charge, he faced a count of attempted second-degree murder for the shooting of Jamison Lewis. The violence of that morning also resulted in injuries to two other individuals. Consequently, Jackson was also charged with aggravated assault for the shooting of Zachary Breedlove and reckless endangerment for the shooting of Jonathan McInturff.
Due to previous felony convictions in Tennessee, Jamarcus Jackson faced additional charges of unlawful possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. At the time of his arrest, he was also found to be in possession of marijuana, which led to a charge of simple possession. Following his arrest, Jackson was transported to the Washington County Detention Center. His bond was set at $200,000, and an arraignment was scheduled in the General Sessions Court of Washington County. The investigation into the deadly encounter was reported to be ongoing.
