On September 28, 2015, 36-year-old Samantha Crumpton, a mother of two teenage children, was fatally shot inside her apartment in the Waterford Crossings complex on Old Franklin Road in South Nashville. The incident occurred early in the morning when Samantha's boyfriend, Marcus A. Lewis, 35, claimed he thought he was confronting an intruder. Lewis admitted to shooting Crumpton, but stated he did not know she was in the apartment at the time.
