In the autumn of 2015, the life of 19-year-old Sidney Maurice Jackson, an African American male, was tragically cut short in Knoxville, Tennessee. A graduate of Fulton High School in 2014, Jackson was remembered as a promising young man, a former MVP on the football field, and a student at Pellissippi State Community College with aspirations of earning a business and associates degree. He was also a new father to a one-month-old son.
On the afternoon of November 21, 2015, a violent altercation in the Arbor Place apartment area led to a double shooting. Jackson was struck by at least one round of gunfire. Despite his injuries, he managed to run to a nearby Weigel's gas station on Summit Hill Drive to seek help. He was then rushed to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries during surgery. Another individual, Shamarkus Laquest Morelan Jr., 16, was also critically injured in the shooting.
Witnesses at the scene described an altercation with a man who fired several shots at the victims. At least one of the victims reportedly returned fire. The suspect was described as a white male, between 17 and 20 years old, with a medium build and brown curly hair, standing approximately 5'10' tall. He was seen fleeing the scene in a white or gray Ford Taurus, possibly with three other males in the vehicle. Knoxville Police Department officers at the time indicated that weapons and illegal drugs were found at both the initial scene and the gas station.

Hall of Fame Drive on November 21, 2015, the same date and location as Jackson's death.
