In the early evening of January 4, 2016, a knock at the front door of his Isaac Drive home in Clarksville, Tennessee, lured 26-year-old James Brown, also known as J.L. Bey, outside. An African American male, Brown engaged in a conversation with an unknown individual or individuals. Shortly after, the sound of multiple gunshots shattered the night, and Brown stumbled back into his residence, where he collapsed and died from his injuries.
