Lonnie Lee Ludvigson, a 48-year-old Caucasian male, was a man who had faced and overcome significant challenges in his life, including serving his country in the U.S. Army during Desert Storm and surviving a battle with stage 4 Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. His life, however, was tragically cut short on January 9, 2016, in Memphis, Tennessee. Ludvigson was in the city working as a trucker for the online shipping service U-Ship, a job that took him across the country.
On that Saturday
afternoon, while in the 700 block of Prescott, Ludvigson was approached by four masked men in what authorities believe was an attempted robbery. The assailants, who arrived in a blue car, confronted Ludvigson and demanded money. As they walked him toward their vehicle, he attempted to flee, but one of the men shot him. Despite the efforts of a neighbor who attempted CPR, Ludvigson was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into Ludvigson's murder led to a breakthrough thanks to a tip from CrimeStoppers. Authorities in Memphis were able to identify and arrest two suspects in connection with the fatal shooting. Eighteen-year-old Devonta Vaughn was taken into custody in Memphis. The second suspect, 19-year-old DeMarco McKinley, was apprehended in Dallas, Texas, and subsequently extradited back to Memphis to face charges. Both Vaughn and McKinley were indicted on murder charges for their alleged roles in the death of Lonnie Ludvigson.
