In Madison, Tennessee, on the evening of February 20, 2016, a confrontation between two men escalated with fatal consequences, ending the life of 32-year-old Brandon Michael Edmondson, Sr. The incident, which took place in the 200 block of Rio Vista Drive, concluded with Edmondson suffering a fatal gunshot wound. The man responsible for the shooting, David L.
Sullivan, remained at the scene and claimed to have acted in self-defense.
According to the investigation by Metro Nashville Police, the tragic series of events began with an argument between Edmondson and a woman. Sullivan, who was present at the scene, reportedly asked Edmondson to leave the woman alone. The situation then intensified, with Edmondson allegedly turning his aggression towards Sullivan. It was at this point that Sullivan, armed with a handgun, fired a single shot that struck Edmondson. He was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Detectives with the Metro Nashville Police Department launched a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting. A critical component of their inquiry was the examination of Sullivan's assertion that he acted in self-defense. After reviewing the evidence and interviewing witnesses, the police did not immediately file charges against Sullivan.
The case was subsequently presented to the District Attorney's office for review. Upon evaluation of the police investigation and the evidence at hand, the District Attorney's office concluded that the evidence was consistent with Sullivan's claim of self-defense.
