A simmering dispute at a house party in Brownsville, Tennessee, tragically ended the life of 17-year-old Elia Hernandez on the night of June 26, 2016. A recent graduate of Crockett County High School, the young woman was caught in the crossfire of a violent altercation that she had no part in. Hernandez was inside the residence, seeking refuge from a fight that had erupted outside, when gunfire rang out.
Investigators determined that 18-year-old Quin Love fired approximately 10 rounds from a handgun into the crowd at the party. One of those bullets struck Hernandez in the abdomen, inflicting a fatal wound. Two other individuals, 22-year-old Jonathan Davis and 19-year-old Carlos Savage, were also wounded by the gunfire but ultimately survived their injuries.
In the wake of the deadly shooting, law enforcement quickly identified Quin Love as the primary suspect. He was subsequently arrested and faced a slate of serious charges, including first-degree murder for the death of Elia Hernandez, attempted first-degree murder for the injuries sustained by the other two victims, and felony reckless endangerment.
Further investigation into the incident also led to the indictment of Quin Love's brother, Christian Ray Cottrell. While not accused of the shooting itself, Cottrell faced an assault charge in connection with the events that transpired at the house party that evening.
