At the beginning of April 2017, a violent incident unfolded in the Fairground neighborhood of St. Louis, Missouri, claiming the life of 34-year-old African American male Darnell Duff. The sequence of events began late on a Thursday night or early Friday morning outside Marsha’s LTD Bar & Grill, an establishment situated in the 3500 block of Kossuth Avenue. Witnesses reported that Duff became involved in a verbal altercation with a group of unidentified individuals outside the business.
Following this exchange, he walked away from the immediate area, crossing the street toward the 4100 block of Peck Street.
Shortly after separating himself from the initial argument, Duff was targeted by multiple assailants who opened fire. Responding officers were dispatched to the scene around 12:05 a.m. on April 7, finding Duff in the entryway of the bar suffering from gunshot wounds to his chest and legs. Emergency personnel transported him to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention, but he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
In the aftermath of the shooting, investigators determined that the suspects fled the scene immediately after the attack. Despite the presence of witnesses to the initial dispute and the subsequent shooting, law enforcement struggled to identify the specific individuals responsible. Years after the homicide, reports indicated that the case remained unsolved, with no arrests made and no charges filed against any suspects in connection with Duff's murder. The investigation stalled as authorities continued to seek information from the public regarding the identities of the gunmen.
