In the heart of Kansas City, Missouri, a beloved local figure, James Dale 'Jim' Cavanaugh, the owner of Clint's Comics, met a tragic end on Friday, May 12, 2017. The day took a fatal turn when a man entered the iconic comic book store, located near 39th and Main Street, and attempted to leave with a stack of comic books without paying. Cavanaugh, a man known for his larger-than-life personality, pursued the thief out the back door and into the parking lot in an attempt to retrieve his property.
The confrontation escalated quickly as the suspect got into his car to flee. In his effort to stop the thief, Cavanaugh was struck by the getaway vehicle, a white hatchback. The impact caused him to fall and strike his head on the pavement. Emergency services were called, and Cavanaugh was rushed to a nearby hospital, but the injuries he sustained proved to be fatal.
