On an autumn evening in Kansas City, Missouri, the life of 27-year-old Christopher Michael Shaver was tragically cut short by gun violence. The incident occurred on October 26, 2017, near the intersection of Brooklyn Avenue and East 69th Street. Shaver, who had moved to Kansas City from Wichita to make a fresh start, was standing outside a house with a female acquaintance.
He had just spoken with his sister, telling her he was on his way to his girlfriend's for dinner.
Around sunset, a dark-colored midsize car approached, and a man dressed in dark clothing exited the vehicle and began firing shots in their direction. Shaver was fatally wounded in the attack. The woman with him was struck in the hip but survived the shooting. When Shaver's concerned family repeatedly tried to call him, it was the wounded woman who answered his phone and delivered the devastating news. Christopher Shaver, born on Christmas Day in 1989, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Despite the presence of numerous witnesses to the shooting, the case remains an unsolved homicide. Law enforcement officials have been met with a wall of silence, as no one has come forward to provide information that could lead to the identification and arrest of the shooter. The suspect was described only as a Black male wearing all dark clothing. Christopher's family, who remember him as the youngest of five and their only son, continue to seek answers and closure in his senseless killing. They believe that his past troubles with the wrong crowd in Wichita may have followed him to Kansas City, but without any arrests or suspects, the true motive for his murder remains unknown.
