In a tragic turn of events that unfolded in the Hickory Hill neighborhood of Memphis, Tennessee, a 27-year-old woman named Kendall Brown was fatally shot and killed on Thursday, April 13, 2017. The violence of that day also claimed the life of her sister, Kayla Brown. The incident, which sent shockwaves through the community, transpired in the early morning hours, around 2:00 a.m., inside a home on Pathway Circle.
The sisters' lives were cut short following what police described as an
argument. Present in the home at the time of the shooting were five children, who were thankfully unharmed amidst the chaos. In the aftermath of the deadly altercation, Kendall's husband, George Earl Muhammad, became the primary suspect. He initially fled the scene but later surrendered to the Memphis Police Department.
Authorities subsequently charged Muhammad with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of his wife and sister-in-law. An affidavit revealed Muhammad's account of the events leading up to the shooting. He claimed to have returned home from work early to find his wife with another man. According to his statement, a physical struggle over a firearm ensued between him and Kendall. He alleged that after gaining control of the weapon, he 'blacked out' and proceeded to shoot both his wife and her sister.
This was not the first time violence had marred the relationship between Kendall Brown and George Muhammad. Court records indicated a history of domestic abuse, with Muhammad having been convicted of domestic assault against Kendall in 2012. During that incident, he repeatedly pushed her to the ground and struck her in the face while she was six months pregnant. For that offense, he was sentenced to a single day in jail. The tragic deaths of Kendall and Kayla Brown highlighted a devastating escalation of domestic violence.
