In the late summer of 2017, the life of Desmond Dale, a 36-year-old man from Knoxville, Tennessee, was tragically cut short. On September 9th, his body was discovered behind an apartment building in the Montgomery Village housing development, located in the 1100 block of Daylily Drive.
An investigation into the death quickly pointed to foul play, and authorities began to piece together the events that led to the grim discovery.
Witnesses reported that Dale had been involved in an altercation that tragically escalated. According to a woman who was with the suspect, a fight broke out between Dale and another man, which ultimately led to Dale being shot and killed. The shooter then fled the scene.
Through their investigation, police identified Curtis M. Lane, 29 years old at the time, as the primary suspect. A witness identified the shooter by the nickname 'Blow,' which investigators were able to connect to Lane. When initially questioned, Lane denied any involvement in the shooting. However, by March of the following year, a Knox County grand jury handed down an indictment against him.
Lane was charged with the murder of Desmond Dale. An additional charge of being a felon in possession of a weapon was also brought against him. He was subsequently taken into custody and held at the Roger D. Wilson Detention Facility.
