Akilah Jahmal Dasilva, a 23-year-old male, was fatally shot on April 22, 2018, in a mass shooting at a Waffle House in Antioch, Tennessee. Dasilva, a rap artist and music video producer known as 'Natrix Dream,' was among four people killed in the attack. The other victims were DeEbony Groves, 21, Joe Perez, 20, and Taurean Sanderlin, 29.
The assailant, Travis Reinking, who was 29 at the time, opened fire in the restaurant's parking lot before continuing the rampage inside.
He was armed with an AR-15 style rifle. The shooting was brought to an end when an unarmed customer, James Shaw Jr., heroically wrestled the rifle away from Reinking, who then fled the scene.
A 34-hour manhunt ensued, culminating in Reinking's capture on April 23. At the time of his arrest, he was found in a wooded area near the Waffle House, carrying a backpack containing a handgun and ammunition.
Reinking, who had a history of mental health issues and previous encounters with law enforcement, was charged with four counts of first-degree premeditated murder, among other charges. Despite a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity, a jury found him guilty on all counts in February 2022. He was subsequently sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. His father was also found guilty of unlawful delivery of a firearm for returning weapons to his son after they had been confiscated by authorities.
