In the late spring of 2018, a tragedy unfolded in the Chattanooga, Tennessee community of Hixson, ending the life of 48-year-old Kimberly Phillips. On the morning of Sunday, May 20th, Phillips was found in the parking lot of a local gas station, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound. Emergency services were called to the scene, but she was pronounced dead where she was found.
The incident cut short the life of a woman known to have attended Hixson High School and worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant.
Further investigation by the Chattanooga police revealed the incident to be an apparent murder-suicide. The individual responsible for Ms. Phillips' death was identified as her 47-year-old ex-husband, Frederick Tragresser. After shooting Phillips, Tragresser was discovered in a vehicle at the same location with what authorities believed to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into the sequence of events was handled by the Chattanooga Police Department. Given that the sole suspect in Kimberly Phillips' murder took his own life, there were no arrests to be made in connection with her death. The case concluded as a murder-suicide, leaving behind a grieving family and community to mourn the violent loss of a mother of three.
