Antonio Williams, a 27-year-old Black man from St. Louis, Missouri, died after a shooting that police traced to the city’s north side. In the early hours of April 6, 2018, the violence seemed to erupt suddenly—an argument flaring into gunfire—leaving Williams with a single gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken to a hospital, but he did not survive.
Investigators focused on what happened in the 1500 block of Dick Gregory Place, where they believed the confrontation turned deadly. As the case came together over the following months, detectives and prosecutors concluded the shooting wasn’t random; it was tied to a dispute, and they homed in on a specific suspect.
On October 24, 2018—about six months after Williams was killed—authorities announced that Marcus Ausler, 29, had been charged in connection with the homicide. The reported charges included first-degree murder, armed criminal action, and unlawful possession of a firearm. His bond was set at $1 million.
