On July 8, 2017, the life of 24-year-old Dasean J. Davis came to a tragic and abrupt end in Kansas City, Missouri. A male resident of the city, Davis was spending his Saturday night out at the Soul Lounge, a nightclub located in the 9900 block of Holmes Road. He had reportedly been on layoff from his job, which gave him the rare opportunity to go out and celebrate a family member's birthday. According to those who knew him, he was a dedicated father to a young son and was not known to be involved in trouble.
The violence unfolded in the early morning hours, approximately around 1:30 a.m., as the club was nearing its closing time. Witnesses and family members later recounted that a disturbance, possibly an argument between two women, broke out in the parking lot of the venue. Davis, who was preparing to leave the establishment, appeared to be an unintended bystander to the escalating conflict. Amidst the chaos, gunfire erupted, and Davis was struck. Reports indicate he was one of two men wounded during the incident; while the second victim survived his injuries after being hospitalized, Davis’s wounds proved fatal.
