On August 17, 2018, the life of 35-year-old Brandon Loggins, a Black male, was tragically cut short in Memphis, Tennessee. Loggins had just given a friend a ride home from work to the Cromwell Park Apartments. After entering one of the apartments, he was confronted by 26-year-old Marquel Kibbler. The encounter quickly escalated, and Kibbler fatally shot Loggins. Emergency services were called to the scene, but Loggins was pronounced dead shortly after their arrival.
His death was part of a series of six fatal shootings that occurred in Memphis over a 72-hour period.
Investigators soon learned that Loggins and Kibbler were acquainted with each other and had been involved in a heated argument just before the deadly shooting.
