In the spring of 2019 in Memphis, Tennessee, the life of 17-year-old Anterio Worthy was tragically cut short. On April 15th, the Black/African American male teenager was fatally shot during an altercation at an apartment complex in the Raleigh neighborhood. Another 17-year-old was also struck by gunfire and was left in critical condition but ultimately survived the encounter.
Anterio was rushed to Regional One Hospital, but his injuries proved to be too severe, and he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the shooting revealed that the incident was not a random act of violence. Police determined that Anterio and the other teen had arranged to meet with a man named Timothy Miers, who was 26 years old at the time. At some point during this prearranged meeting, an argument broke out, and the situation escalated dramatically when Miers allegedly armed himself and began shooting at the two teenagers.
Following the deadly shooting, law enforcement identified Timothy Miers as the primary suspect. He was subsequently arrested and faced serious charges for his alleged actions. Miers was charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of Anterio Worthy. He was also charged with attempted first-degree murder for the shooting of the second teenager who was critically injured. The case against Miers then began to move through the court system as the community mourned the loss of a young life.
