In a tragic turn of events on May 10, 2019, a domestic dispute in the Frayser neighborhood of Memphis, Tennessee, claimed the life of an innocent bystander. Marcus DeWayne Powell, a 20-year-old African American male, was fatally shot and later died from his injuries at a hospital. The incident began with a conflict between Darunn Turner and his 14-year-old son. Turner left the residence only to return shortly after, opening fire at the home.
Powell, who was present at the location, was struck by the gunfire.
Following the shooting, law enforcement identified Darunn Turner as the suspect and issued a warrant for his arrest on charges of first-degree murder and attempted murder. The U.S. Marshals Task Force began a search for Turner, who ultimately surrendered to authorities at the West Memphis Police Department.
